U15 advance to Illinois Cup Semis – U12 miss out on Jr. President’s Cup Semis by 1 point

U12 Boys – Jr. President’s Cup – 2 wins, 1 loss

Congratulations to the U12 2006/07 Boys for their performance in the group stage of the Jr. President’s Cup.  The boys started off their first group game against ALITSHA Arsenal, on a wet Saturday morning in Lake in the Hills.  Unable to find the back of the net in the first half, the boys let in one goal just after half time.  This seemed to be the spark to wake everyone up, as Mirage rallied together to score four goals in a span of 15 minutes, to finish the game 4-1 in Mirage’s favor.  The hard work of the entire team helped to get the ball up the field for one goal from Gabriel Yoder and three goals from JJ Schlenhardt.

On Saturday afternoon, in the second group game at home against Oak Brook SC, the game also went into half time with the score 0-0.  Mirage boys played for each other, were patient in breaking down a compact OBSC defense and finding the right moments to move the ball into the attacking third; this allowed for a wonderful JJ Schlenhardt strike to put Mirage up 1-0, and a late Razaan Ghazi goal to seal the game 2-0 for Mirage.

Going into Sunday (Mother’s Day) third group game, Mirage was drawn against LCFC.  Once again, both teams were unable to find the back of the net with a Mirage penalty being waved away, and a given LCFC penalty striking the crossbar.  After half time, LCFC had a shot on goal slip through to go up 1-0.  As in the previous two games, Mirage tried to rally and score an equalizing goal, needing only a draw (or a win to advance), but fell victim to another LCFC goal to end the game 0-2 in favor of LCFC. Unfortunately, Mirage missed out on advancing to the semi finals in Rockford by 1 point.  Congratulations to our opponent on a well played game, we wish you luck in the semi finals.  To our boys: we’re all extremely proud of how much a team with many new additions can grow in one season. It takes time to build team chemistry, we’ll take what we’ve done well, improve what we need to work on, and be back to challenge for the cup next season at 11v11.

U15 Boys – Illinois Cup – Group Winners – Advance to Semi Finals in Rockford

Congratulations to the U15 Boys who topped their Illinois Cup group and advance to the semi finals in Rockford.

The boys played their first game in Munster, Indiana against Midwest Wings on April 22nd. Having a league game the day before, the boys were fatigued and it showed as Midwest Wings scored an early goal.  The goal was quickly canceled out by a Henry Andersen shot. Through the second half the game remained deadlocked at 1-1 with both teams looking for that precious second goal, only for Zarko Pavlovic to latch onto a late through ball and score the winner for Mirage with a few minutes left in the game. The boys remained compact in the final minutes and clinched their first game with 2-1 win for Mirage.

On Saturday May 14, the boys played Chicago City at home, and opened the scoring quickly through a Ryan Donohue goal. Even though we were missing four key players, the boys were fired up and kept going for goal. Through wonderful teamwork and set pieces, Keenan Chiarieri, Dominik Danko, Mark Dobos, Michael Jerva, Dylan Clark and Zarko Pavlovic got on the scoresheet to seal a sound win for FC Mirage. Max Wolf provided 2 assists off of set pieces, with the rest coming from combined teamwork.  With two group wins, and a bye that each team received due to a team from the group pulling out, the U15 boys have sealed their spot in the Illinois Cup semi finals on May 26th in Rockford.

Congratulations boys, now let’s get back to work and prepare ourselves for the next game.  GO MIRAGE!
